August 31, 2017 –From backpacks and binders to notebooks and pens, back-to-school shopping can be expensive. As students begin to grace the halls of schools around the nation, AMX Corporation is proud to have collected over 80 items to assist students with their school supply needs.

Partnering with the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (CASA) this past August, AMX organized  a building-wide school supply drive at the Greensboro Corporate Center in McLean, VA.

Having volunteered with CASA since 2015, AMX Business Analyst and Technical Writer Anna Madden, along with fellow Business Analyst Mary Solorzano, spearheaded the effort.

“I get a lot of emails from them about items foster parents need and new moms need that don’t have a lot,” says Madden. “All of the people CASA volunteers work with are between ages 1 and 18 and they’re all supposed to be in school, so, I thought it would be a good idea.”

Established in 1977, CASA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that works to support children within the foster care system on both a state and local level.

“I just want to say thanks to AMX and everyone who participated,” says Madden.” We got a lot of stuff and we’ll definitely be helping a lot of kids in the Montgomery County area.”

The Raise Your Glass Foundation was established in 2012 to raise proceeds for children with disabilities to help them achieve their dreams. The Golf Fore Reece Tournament is an annual event, which is named after a determined five-year-old girl named Reece Leggit, who was born with a rare condition that affects her ability to use her arms and legs. The golf tournament raises awareness for children with disabilities and their unique challenges.

In his new role, Mr. Sowell will lead the company’s Personnel Security Line of Business and Business Development efforts. He will focus on building and improving AMX’ current business opportunities in the personnel security, insider threat, security clearance reform, and background investigation technology markets.

Our work is critical to improving the security posture of our customers at the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal departments and agencies,” Mr. Sowell said. “I look forward to helping our customers transform their legacy technologies into secure, modern, and user-focused security mission enablers.”

Mr. Sowell brings 30 years of national security experience to the AMX team, including roles as Deputy Assistant Director for Special Security and Program Executive for Security Clearance Reform as a Senior National Intelligence Service officer at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). He held executive leadership positions at SRA International, ORION Scientific Systems, McDonald Bradley, and, most recently, Salient CRGT. Mr. Sowell retired as a Navy Commander following 27 years of combined active and reserve officer and enlisted service in the intelligence field. He earned a Master of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Old Dominion University.
